The first step is to take the cable car up to the secondary summit of the Hochkar. You’ll float leisurely all the way up and after a few minutes on foot, you’ll reach an altitude of 1,760 metres. That’s where they are waiting for you: a 60-metre suspension bridge and a 900-metre circular hike to the scenic-view platform. The Skywalk juts out 8.5 metres and allows for an amazing 360-degree view of more than a hundred 2,000-metre summits. Spectacular, fantastic and definitely perfect for fans of scenic views!

For mountain pros: trail running up to the Ötscher

Deep gorges and wide valleys

He’s called the “Majesty of the Mostviertel region” and is known far beyond the borders of Austria: the Ötscher. The 1,893-metre mountain is a popular hiking and running destination in summer. But first things first: A good level of endurance is an absolute must for trail running on the king of the Ybbstal Alps. 

From the quaint village of Lackenhof, the trail leads you up the giant of the Mostviertel across forest trails, ski slopes and easy walking trails. In higher altitudes, lots of serpentines follow and the ascent gets increasingly difficult. Via the Riffelsattel, you’ll continue to the Ötscherschutzhaus and further up until you eventually reach summit joy.

Family hiking on the Wurzeralm

First things first: Thanks to its close proximity to the motorway, the Wurzeralm can be reached quickly and easily by car, which makes it the perfect destination for a spontaneous hiking tour. Especially families with little mountain monkeys get their money’s worth at the Pyhrn-Priel resort. On the “2 million years in 2 hours” hiking trail, you’ll immerse yourself in the Wurzeralm NatureExperienceWorld. On a length of 5.9 kilometres, it leads you across the Wurzeralm on gravel trails and alpine routes. 

The Teichlboden raised bog on the Wurzeralm in Spital am Pyhrn is one of Austria’s most interesting natural treasures.

Hiking along the popular Kasberg pasture route is an absolute highlight in summer. The high-altitude trail leads you past the most beautiful locations of the Salzkammergut region and is brimming with incredible views of the Bavarian Alps and the Dachstein Glacier.
