Underground at Hochkar
Mysterious, beautiful and very impressive: Hochkar Cave. The cave is more than 600 metres long and attracts many visitors every year. All tours are led by trained guides offering information and anecdotes about the cave’s formation, history and major structures. Be part of this unique underground world of the Göstlinger Alps!

Hochkarschacht
Underground Limestone World
Hochkar Cave: 20 Meter high Pfingsthalle with big limestone crystals on the walls. Neighbouring Schichthalle is the exact opposite: smooth walls, but great geological history.
Hochkar Team recommends: Explore the stalactite cave with a guide. Equipped with helmet and lamp you climb underground to the deeps of Göstling Alpen. Experienced guides will offer information and anecdotes about the cavern’s peculiarities.
Tip: Put on your climbing boots, the floor is slippery underground!

Meeting point: 15 minutes prior to the start of the tour at Hochkar bottom station.
Duration: approx. 90 minutes

History of hochkar cave
More than 100,000 Years old
The cavern was formed more than 100,000 years ago and its discovery is closely linked to the development of Hochkar resort.
Autumn 1963: Roads are developed, and the first chairlift and T-bar are constructed. Construction workers look for drinking water and discover a hole near Haderlaus-Mäuerl.
Whit Monday1964: Werner Putz, Georg Perschl and Alfred Herb climb down the hole
Summer 1965: Fredl Jagersberger and his friend Sepp Latschbacher discover today's entrance.
The experienced engineer Franz Geischläger and his construction team then built walkways and lighting.
