Cross-country skiing in Kaiserwinkl
The cross-country ski trail network in the Kaiserwinkl villages of Kössen, Walchsee, Schwendt and Rettenschöss offers perfectly groomed trails for up to 127.5 km of classic and 126 km of skating - a paradise for demanding athletes and motivated beginners. No wonder Kaiserwinkl is at the top of the list of cross-country skiers' and skaters' favorite destinations in Europe!
By the way: two of the trails are (relatively) snow-sure thanks to the storage and preservation of artificial snow (snow farming).
And the best thing? Use of the cross-country ski trails in Kaiserwinkl and the neighboring region of Reit im Winkl is free of charge!
Tip for winter hikes
Winter hiking in Kaiserwinkl
There are no winter hiking trails directly in the ski area or on the Unterberg and there are no opportunities for winter hiking.
Nevertheless, there are a total of 80 kilometers of cleared hiking and walking trails available in the region.
You are sure to find the perfect route for your hike through the beautiful winter landscape. You can easily sort by difficulty level, distance or duration, or simply click through all the suggested routes and let yourself be inspired.
Please note that snow conditions, temperature and weather can have an impact on the routes that are actually available. If in doubt, it is best to enquire about the current conditions directly at the information office of the Kössen or Walchsee tourist office!
Top address - also off-season
Paragliding in winter
It is the special thermals that make the Unterberghorn in Kössen a real top address for paragliders, even in winter. An Eldorado for people who want to satisfy their longing for "higher things" and enjoy the beautiful Kaiserwinkl landscape from a bird's eye view.
In winter, there are only take-off options at the west launch site at an altitude of 1,500 meters. The launch site is easily accessible with the Unterberghorn gondola lift and is located right next to the Bärenhütte. If you want to go higher, you can take the summit lift to the west launch site at 1,700 meters.
Safety first! Safety is a top priority on the Unterberghorn. Taking off from and above the ski slopes is therefore not permitted in winter.
