Modernization with a vision

Extension of the Wurzeralm

In order to sustainably improve the infrastructure on the mountain and prepare it for future requirements, we are launching an important construction project in summer 2025: the first construction phase for snowmaking on the Frauenkarpisten slopes.
Here you will find all the information about the schedule, affected areas in the hiking area, technical details and contacts.

Construction period:
🗓️ from the beginning of July to the end of October 2025

⚠️ Important note:
The Frauenkar lift will only be in operation on Saturdays and Sundays in July 2025.

Overview of the construction site areas

Restrictions on the following hiking trails:

  • Circular hiking trail: obstructions between Almdorf and Frauenkar valley station
  • Hiking trail 218: section along the construction site - severe obstructions possible
  • Trail Frauenkar mountain station - valley station: leads directly through the construction site area

Hiking recommendation:
We currently recommend the alternative route via the Linzerhaus and the Teichleinfall. The hiking trail is easy to walk on and offers a safe alternative to the original route.

  • Green: freely accessible
  • Red: Restricted due to construction traffic
  • Red dashed: Hiking trail 218
  • Blue: Construction site area

The routes and construction areas shown are for orientation purposes - these are approximate markings and are subject to change.

What exactly is being built?

Project description:

First construction phase for snowmaking on the Frauenkarpisten slopes
As part of the first construction phase, a main slope will be built, which will serve as the central route for the required infrastructure. A pumping station will be built to increase the pressure and a transformer station will be installed to ensure the necessary energy supply. In addition, preparatory measures for the future construction of the Frauenkarbahn are already being implemented in order to make subsequent construction work more efficient.

Objective: The technical snowmaking system for piste no. 3 should be ready for operation from the 2025/26 winter season.

Investment volume: The total costs for this construction phase amount to around 3 million euros.

The future with a view

Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG invests 10 million euros in infrastructure offensive
Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG is sending a strong signal for the future: over the next five years, the company will invest a total of 10 million euros in the continuous development and modernization of its infrastructure. The aim is to further enhance the guest experience, strengthen year-round operations and sustainably increase competitiveness.

“We are making targeted investments in a future-proof mountain lift infrastructure that combines comfort, efficiency and sustainability,” emphasizes Helmut Holzinger, CEO of Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG. “These funds are being invested in the modernization of control systems in particular, digital services, ecological measures and attractive summer offers.”

The planned measures include

  • Modernization of existing lift facilities through technical upgrades for greater energy efficiency and operational safety
  • Expansion of the summer offer, for example through new family and adventure offers on both mountains
  • Digitalization offensive in the areas of ticketing, information and customer service
  • Improving the snow infrastructure with a focus on water management and energy-efficient snowmaking
  • Quality improvements in catering and recreation areas

The investments will be made gradually until 2030 and are intended to position the two ski resorts as strong Alpine year-round destinations. “As a company with regional roots, it is important to us to provide impetus not only for our guests, but also for the local economy,” continues Holzinger.
The measure is part of a long-term strategy to sustainably strengthen Upper Austria as a location for Alpine tourism. “We are convinced that continuous improvement is the key to economic success and guest enthusiasm.”
