A look behind the scenes
The company
What exactly lies behind the name Hinterstoder-Wurzeralm Bergbahnen AG? A whole lot, that's for sure!
It is not only a leading company in the Pyhrn-Priel holiday region, but also the largest cable car company and the only World Cup venue in Upper Austria.
In short: Hinterstoder and the Wurzeralm are one of the most important economic factors in the region!
Hinterstoder
The company was founded in 1958. In 1959, it achieved a masterpiece with the construction of one of the first double chairlifts in Austria. Winter tourism thus became increasingly important throughout the region. In 1982, the ski resort in Bärenalm was taken over, and three years later, in 1985, the major investment in the 6-seater cable cars led to a major upswing – Hinterstoder became the No. 1 ski region in Upper Austria.
In 1999, the company was taken over by the Schröcksnadel family's Vereinigte Bergbahnen. Further modernization and new construction in 1999, the 6-seater chairlift Höss-Express, and in 2012 the 10-seater gondola lift Hirschkogelbahn (the first 10-seater gondola lift in Upper Austria) attracted more and more enthusiastic skiers to Hinterstoder. The ski area now comprises 40 kilometers of slopes with easy, medium, and difficult runs. These include the famous Hannes Trinkl World Cup downhill run, the largest kids' park in Upper Austria, and various adventure rides.
Wurzeralm
The first connection from the Pyhrn Pass road to the Wurzeralm was opened in 1962 with a two-line gondola lift for four people.
To increase capacity and speed, a modern funicular railway was built in 1978, which began operating on July 15, 1978.
The Wurzeralm has established itself as a small, family-friendly ski resort – with 22 km of slopes, including easy, medium, and some difficult runs, complemented by a Sunny Kids Park, rope lifts, and chairlifts.
