How to get to the Wurzeralm in comfort!
Whether you arrive by car or bus - the Wurzeralm is easy to reach! Located directly on the A9 Pyhrnautobahn, we offer plenty of parking spaces at the valley station. You can also get to the ski area stress-free by public transport - Spital am Pyhrn train station is just a few minutes away.
Flexibility in the Pyhrn-Priel vacation region
By car to Spital am Pyhrn
The Wurzeralm is located in the south-west of the Upper Austrian municipality of Spital am Pyhrn. This means that the skiing and hiking area is also very close to the most important north-south axis, the A9. Those coming from the south pay the toll through the Bosruck Tunnel in addition to the vignette. No additional toll is due from the north.
FromVienna, the best way to reach the Wurzeralm is via the A1 Westautobahn in the direction of Salzburg.
Coming from the west , take the A8 to Salzburg and continue on the Westautobahn A1 towards Linz.
From Passau, follow the A8 to Wels Nord.
Whichever route you take: At the Voralpenkreuz junction, change to the A9 towards Graz and follow this until the Spital/Pyhrn exit to the right as far as the Wurzeralm.
Or better: let them go on vacation!
By bus & train to your vacation destination
You can get here by train via Hinterstoder train station - this can be reached in just over an hour from Linz. In winter, the free ski bus runs at regular intervals. First to the Hinterstoder valley station and then to the Wurzeralm ski area. In both summer and winter, visitors to the Pyhrn-Priel vacation region can also travel by bus 431 or cab.
Throughout the winter, the ski bus is free throughout the region with winter sports equipment*!
* Only valid with a free ski bus ticket in combination with winter sports equipment on the entire route of lines 431, 432, 434, 436, 911 during the operating hours of the mountain railroads.
Charging options
with the e-car to the Wurzeralm
Ten state-of-the-art charging points have been installed directly at the large parking lot near the valley station. These are equipped with a Type 2 plug with up to 11 kW charging capacity. Charging instructions are also provided on the side of each charging point.
Charging is possible with:
- the Energie AG charging card at the Park & Charge rate (details at www.energieag.at/ladekarte)
- various charging cards from Austrian and international charging card providers (> 30 providers)
- payment via smartphone + credit card combination
There is also another public charging station in the center of Spital am Pyhrn. There is a regular public transport connection from the town center to the Wurzeralm – the timetable is available at the municipal office.
In Hinterstoder, there is also an e-charging station directly at the valley station of the new 10-seater Hössbahn.

Parking at the Wurzeralm
There is a large parking lot right next to the valley station of the funicular, which can be used free of charge all year round. 200 meters above is an additional, free parking lot especially for skiers.
A look at the operating times in summer and winter reveals whether the funicular is currently running.
